Erica Buist

Stockroom Artist

Erica has spent the last decade working as a journalist and features writer.

Formerly a staffer at the Guardian, her work can also be found on outlets such as the BBC, The Sunday Times, Refinery29, Medium, Grazia, and Newsweek.

She is the London Stories Writer at the newspaper MyLondon, and lectures on features writing at Goldsmiths University, Lincoln University and on Guardian Masterclasses. She is also Journalist in Residence at King Edward VI High School in Birmingham.

Her first book, a hybrid of nonfiction and memoir called This Party’s Dead, came out in 2021. Her short fiction and essays have been published in various literary anthologies including Hypertext Review, Guts Publishing and Tupelo Quarterly, and her work has also been performed at Liars’ League London.

Erica says: “I’m absolutely thrilled to be joining the Writers Room at Stockroom. My pre-journalism writing days were all theatre-based, and to return to it to write collaboratively is, frankly, the stuff of my most outlandish daydreams. And while I can’t wait for our writing to be brought to life onstage, I’m most excited about the hours we’ll spend around the writers room table, chiselling mounds of ideas into stories.”
