Why did the witch craze happen? Why were so many women victimised? Are the same factors at play in today’s world?

Inspired by themes in Rebecca Lenkiewicz’s new play, we’ve invited some brilliant guests to discuss witch hunts past and present, both literal and metaphorical – whether it’s the portrayal of women in the media, bullying on Twitter, or political rhetoric about immigration and terrorism.

The event takes place at the Arcola Theatre between the afternoon and evening performances of Jane Wenham: The Witch of Walkern, and is free to attend. Why not book to see the play on the same day? Please join us, and join in.

Guests include:
– Broadcaster and historian Suzannah Lipscomb, who recently wrote and presented Witch Hunt: A Century of Murder for Channel 5. She has written and broadcast widely and is Head of History at the New College of the Humanities, where she teaches Early Modern History.
– Artist and curator Deanna Petherbridge, who curated the recent Witches and Vile Bodies exhibition at the British Museum.
Sian McGee of the Women’s Equality Party.
