To coincide with our next show Close Quarters, Kate Bowen’s new thriller about the British Army’s first generation of women soldiers in close combat roles, we are offering a varied education programme. Opportunities include:
WORKSHOPS
2-hour workshops run by actors from the company. These are a hands-on opportunity to gain insight into how Out of Joint create shows, designed specifically with the Live Theatre Review section of exams in mind. It will include an overview of the directors’ aims and intentions for the piece, taking part in a rehearsal exercise used in rehearsals and analysis and practical exploration of an actor’s performance choices in a scene from the play.
PAGE TO STAGE POST-SHOW Q&A
After the show on the 7th November 2018. There will be the opportunity prior to this talk to submit any questions your students may like to ask on rehearsal process, actor’s process, director’s aims etc… and a selection of these will be presented to the cast and director to answer on the night. This post-show talk will be filmed, and for those not able to make the performance, it can be shown in class or viewed outside of school at student’s leisure to help prepare them for their exams.
DIGITAL RESOURCES
We’re producing a series of video diaries and interviews with creatives designed to give students and teachers an insight into the rehearsal and production processes of a theatre company. Keep an eye out for these resources here on our website, available Autumn 2018!
THE ANDREA PROJECT
After the success of our first Andrea Project (named after playwright Andrea Dunbar) in which we worked with young writers from Bolton and London, we’re launching the project as a regular outreach event that will run at least once a year. Working with young, aspiring writers aged 15-19, the project will next run as a co-production with Sheffield Theatres, and will culminate in a performance of the young writers’ work. More details to be shared soon.
